Following the success of its inaugural game, the HBCU Port City Classic powered by the Mobile Sports Authority football game is back in the port city, promising another exhilarating matchup between the Alabama State Hornets and the Alcorn State Braves in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) showdown.
Scheduled for Saturday, November 2nd, kickoff for the game is set for 4:00 PM at historic Ladd-Peebles Stadium, promising an exciting and memorable experience for all attendees.
Building upon the spirit of the inaugural year, this year’s event will feature several pre-game activities and festivities for supporters and guests. Among the highlights: Cheer Clinic featuring both Alabama State and Alcorn State cheerleaders, a Black Business Expo, inaugural HBCU Golf Tournament, as well as ‘Jokes & Notes’, an evening of comedy and music featuring nationally renowned comedians and recording artists.
“We are cultivating the culture!” CEO Kevin Ball says. “The Port City Classic is more than just a football game that shows off the HBCU culture. It’s also a celebration of community and the rich legacy of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. We hope that you join us as we come together to honor tradition, showcase talent, and create lasting memories.”
Danny Corte, Executive Director of the Mobile Sports Authority, added, “One of our main goals when I came to the MSA in 2011 was to bring back HBCU football to Mobile. And now, we have not one, but two successful HBCU games held annually. So, we’re proud to be a part of that accomplishment. Alcorn State and Alabama State should be a great matchup and along with our two main event partners, the City and County of Mobile, we look forward to welcoming all the players, coaches, school officials, alumni, and fans to the Port City.”
